Information for Publishers
The Association of American Publishers (AAP) developed the AccessText Network to improve the textbook file requesting process for publishers, colleges, and students. The mission of AccessText is to provide a simple, efficient, and flexible method for processing file and permission requests from colleges and universities.
The AccessText project is designed to benefit publishers in many ways:
- Member publishers will be able to manage the constantly increasing number of requests for files and permissions they receive more efficiently and securely. The AccessText application allows publishers to track requests from a dashboard that shows all pending and completed requests.
- All college members are screened for eligibility before they are allowed to place requests through the AccessText system. Publishers can click on the profile of any requesting college to see their full details and contact information.
- Publishers can choose to grant automatic permissions to members or they can select a manual process whereby permissions are granted on a case-by-case basis.
- The AccessText staff works closely with publishers to ensure the system meets their needs and is secure and easy to use. Training and support is available on the web, by email, and by phone.
- Publishers are provided a complimentary FTP file transfer system within AccessText to make it even easier to securely send files to requesting colleges and track the resulting download.
- AccessText will help academic publishers better understand the needs of students with disabilities, which will be increasingly important as more K-12 students who have used NIMAS-based books begin to enter college.
Becoming a member of the AccessText Network will benefit publishers as much as member colleges and their students. AccessText is a proactive measure to help ensure students with disabilities are not discriminated against as instructional technology advances.
